Draw a Pencil Back to School Sticker

Draw a Pencil Back to School Sticker
In this Affinity® Designer tutorial, we will draw a pencil, which will become part of a Back to School sticker sheet.

Start a new 8 x 8 inches document at 300 dpi in Affinity Designer.

  1. Draw a thin vertical rectangle on the canvas. (see screenshot)

  2. With the rectangle selected, click Convert to Curves on the Context Toolbar.

  3. At the top of the rectangle, drag the line upward to create a curve.

  4. Set the Fill to EAB062.

  5. Duplicate the rectangle and change the Fill to E4954C. Place it at the side of the original rectangle.

  6. Repeat the previous step and set the Fill to DF8645.

  7. We now have three thin rectangles. Let's make the middle rectangle a little wider, which will be the main part of the pencil. The other two rectangles will be the sides.

  8. Widen the lightest colored rectangle and put it in the center. Reposition the other two rectangles to the sides of the pencil.

  9. Draw a triangle at the top of the rectangles, which will be the point of the pencil. Set the Fill to FAE3B5.

  10. Drag the pencil point layer to the bottom layer in the Layers panel.

  11. Now, we will add the tip of the pencil.

  12. Duplicate the pencil point. Change the Fill to Black. Reduce the triangle and place it at the tip of the pencil point.

  13. Now, we will work on the other end of the pencil. Let's draw the metal band.

  14. Draw a horizontal rectangle the width of the pencil and set the color to 808080.

  15. To add a highlight to the band, duplicate the rectangle and reduce the duplicate to about one third the width of the band. Set the Fill to A4ADB3. Place the highlight rectangle at the center of the pencil.

  16. Now we will draw the eraser, using the Rounded Rectangle tool.

  17. Draw a rounded rectangle at the bottom of the pencil. Drag this layer to the bottom of the Layers panel.

  18. Position the shape so that the top rounded corners of the rectangle are hidden below the metal band. The bottom rounded corners will create the rounded edge of the eraser.

  19. Set the Fill color to D2948A.

  20. Duplicate the metal highlight shape and drag it over the center of the eraser. Change the Fill to E0B5AE.

  21. In the Layers panel, group all of the layers together and name the group layer to Pencil.

  22. Save your file for later.
